Charitable organizations, regardless of size, exist to support and raise funds for a specific cause. These causes are either broad based in their mission or very specific. However, we all depend on the general community for their donations of money, goods and services in order to support and promote our humanitarian efforts and programs. Some charities, like Yesterday’s Rose, are completely self-funded while others rely on partial government funding.
Throughout history, most donating efforts have been mandated by religious institutions. It was often required and considered the duty of the wealthy to give to the poor. Unfortunately, charitable giving is not as clearly defined today and people are confused about HOW they can help and WHAT are the personal benefits. In a nutshell…
You are helping others not as fortunate. There are many people who are not as secure as you are or not as healthy. Animals suffer from neglect and mistreatment. Many children have a long list of issues. Unfortunately, we have become a society of the 3Hs: homeless, healthless and hugless. As social animals ourselves, we bear the responsibility of trying to make this world a better place. The act of giving is the “rent” we pay for the space we occupy while we are on this Earth.
Donating to charity makes you feel good. Medical and scientific research has proven that giving to a cause makes you feel better about yourself and produces a sense of satisfaction unlike any other activity. It improves your self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth. You feel good about yourself and, as a result, you are able to handle your own problems more easily than people who do not donate.
Donating to charity gives you the wonderful opportunity to give to a cause you believe in. Whatever issue or cause you are passionate about can be supported through your donations whether it is a health concern, childrens’ issues, animal welfare, the environment, education, the arts…the list is endless!
Donating to charity expands your circle of acquaintances. While mostcharitable groups need your financial contributions or your donations of goods, we are also in need of your TIME. Often, just a few hours a week can make a critical difference to an organization or to someone’s life. These new relationships will potentially take you places and introduce you to new people that might have never happened otherwise!
Charitable giving and the work of volunteer forces everywhere is what keeps this world spinning! Every hospital, hospice, shelter, rescue, school, etc. etc. benefits from such a simple gesture as giving.
Yesterday’s Rose has been serving the needs of the community for 32 years. We have processed countless donations, trained many volunteers, spent many hours working with community service workers and high school students and created a large, loyal customer base. It is through the GIVING that Yesterday’s Rose has been able to create funding where there was none, support programs where there weren’t any, provide jobs where opportunities were scarce and has blessed us with that chance to give back to others but to be able to receive that wonderful gift of giving from you.
On behalf of everyone at Yesterday’s Rose, we thank you for your continued support and loyalty.
So……why do YOU do what you do?
